Why should we attend the "Growing Gloucestershire" conference? Here is what the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) think.

The view of the CIPD is that Continuing Professional Development or CPD requires a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help members manage their own learning and growth.

The focus of CPD is firmly on results – the benefits that professional development can bring members in the "real world". Perhaps the most important message is that one approach does not fit everyone.

  • So the "Growing Gloucestershire" conference provides several ways of adding to a member’s CPD:
  • networking and sharing information with other HR professionals
  • networking and sharing information with other professionals from other institutes
  • attending the formal key note presentations and asking questions
  • attending the seminars and engaging with others in a more informal setting
  • adding to your CPD record

Wherever you are in your career now, and whatever you want to achieve, your CPD should be exactly that - yours.

Chartered Institute of Marketing members have benefited from attending previous annual Gloucestershire Professional joint conferences at the University of Gloucestershire by learning from award winning companies' case studies who are achieving outstanding marketing results which they are then applying to their own businesses.

The Chartered Management Institute, the only chartered professional body that is dedicated to management and leadership, has demonstrated its support for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with the creation of a new online, interactive CPD system.

The Institute recognises that effective CPD is a commitment to professionalism, showing that you have taken personal responsibility for ensuring that you have the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the challenges of an ever changing world.

As part of this years Growing Gloucestershire Conference we will be presenting the awards for University of Gloucestershire BUG Business Planning Competition (Business planning at the University of Gloucestershire).

The competition has the aim to encourage entrepreneurial behaviour in people and is open to all of the university’s staff, students and alumni (graduated within 5 years). The program also provides support to all those taking part so that the best quality plans can be produced and so that contestants will have the best chance of turning these business plans into successful and sustainable businesses.

Successful contestants will then be chosen to represent the University of Gloucestershire in the regional inter university business plan competition run by Knowledge West. More information can be found on the BUG website: www.glos.ac.uk/bugcompetition
